SSVA introduced students to aid to Ukraine, urban planning technologies

On Monday, the Construction Sector Development Agency (SSVA) was visited by students from the project "Schoolstudents - to the Government", who had the opportunity to get a closer look at the agency's activities.

This year's theme, "Students for Lithuania in the World", provides a broader perspective on the priorities of the Lithuanian state, and invites students to ask the question "Who are we in the world?". This year's project theme is therefore aimed at discovering where Lithuanian public institutions could contribute to spreading the word about Lithuania abroad.

SSVA representatives not only presented the agency's activities in providing technical assistance to rebuild destroyed Ukrainian cities, but also introduced the latest technologies used in urban planning, such as 3D city planning.

"These technologies could help with efficient and high-quality reconstruction of Ukrainian cities, and we are in regular contact with their municipalities to share Lithuanian experience. As the reconstruction work is likely to take place over decades, new buildings need to be energy efficient and sustainable," says Aidas Vaičiulis, Director of SSVA.

"We are pleased that the students found this topic relevant and that we had the opportunity to answer all their questions," he adds.

The project has been organised annually since 2009 by the Chancellery of the Government, together with its partners - the Lithuanian Union of Schoolchildren and the National Academy of Schoolchildren. Almost 400 pupils have taken part so far.

Throughout the week, pupils will have the opportunity to visit various state institutions and to get to know the work of staff and politicians.

30 pupils from all over Lithuania, selected by the jury, will also have a week-long assignment to come up with solutions to the most pressing issues in state governance. The participants were selected from a pool of almost 90 candidates.
