Building Data Bank project launches to give an extra boost to renovation

The project will develop a system that will collect information on building characteristics, maintenance documentation, building condition, energy performance and energy consumption.

This data will be analysed to monitor and promote renovation and to provide information to the public on the current state of the buildings and the renovation process.

"The building databank will be public - residents will be able to check the energy performance class of a building, its condition and energy consumption data by address. At the same time, information on renovation solutions and options will be available, which will allow a better assessment of the benefits of renovation", says Aidas Vaičiulis, Director of SSVA.

75% of the buildings were built before 1992, when there were no energy performance requirements. These buildings do not meet modern standards and requirements, are classified below energy performance class C and consume as much as 78% of the primary energy of the buildings.

"Centralised collection and reporting of building data will also help optimise building maintenance processes. The collected data can be further used for risk assessment of buildings and will enable public authorities to make data-driven decisions on improving the energy efficiency of buildings," adds Vaičiulis.

Currently, there is no single solution in Lithuania to collect data on the condition of buildings.

The €2.5 million project is funded by the EU's Recovery and Resilience Plan "Next Generation Lithuania". It is scheduled to run until Q3 2025.

The project is being implemented by SSVA together with its partners - the Ministry of Environment, the State Territorial Planning and Building Inspectorate and the State Enterprise Agricultural Data Centre.

The project objective contributes to the headline "Mitigate climate change, including improving energy efficiency in residential and municipal public buildings and promoting the use of energy from renewable sources" of the Development Programme Manager of the Ministry of the Environment, for the period 2022-2030.
